It doesn't really matter to me what a person names their horse. My Alex doesn't like Gat's name because most people pronounce it like it's written and the right way to pronounce it sounds like a disease 'Gout' .... she wanted to give her a barn name but never did.
If I say 'Gat', she responds, even if only moving her ears--I'm guessing that she 'knows' her name. I do have a pet name for her though--it's 'Baby' because she's so sweet and small. V
