That is what I thought when I first saw it - I was trying to Velcro the straps together but then it makes the hard use really restrictive. I talked to Dana about it and she has never had or heard of a problem and once your feet are in the stirrups I don't think it would be a problem. I ride some saddles with the free swing attachment and others the hard use - I like it both ways and think it is a matter of personal preference and just trying new things.
