gosh no kiddin Susan! Thats a good one. In a recent thread about
what the USIHC should be doing I tried to tell people about the
versatility program for the SSHBEA and how awesome it is compared to
most registry showing and the person said "no one is going to drive a
long distance just to show their horse in trail obstacle" or something
to that effect ???? People in the SSHBEA sure drive long distances
all the time for it!! And then they said and besides, people who show
icelandic horses also trail ride, the point being that there really is
no difference at all between the show person and people like me, a
trail rider. because they said thats really the best way to keep a
horse in shape, trail riding. But I was around world class show
people of various breeds for many years and I'm telling you NOW they
do NOT trail ride within three months of a show. they dont risk any
bangs and scratches and body stains. They blanket and supplement for
coat gleam etc, stall 24/7 except for arena work and put them on a hot
walker for conditioning. I mean sure, maybe they start out trail
riding for conditioning but once they get "up there"in competition the
horse becomes a show horse and nothing else. Theres no "pleasure" in
it at all. But its that attitude. that "no, this is the way it is"
that they are gonna hang on to til the whole ship goes down with em.
