>>> is that Karen Thomas actually ordered a dressage cantle on her Hybrid
saddle, which was extended. This means that the saddle feels really big and
roomy, but it doesn't have the same support as the hybrid cantle. The
difference is just that the hybrid cantle feels more like a western seat,
whereas the dressage of course feels more English. ... The Hybrid cantle
can still be extended, but only by about a 1/2", whereas putting the
dressage cantle on and moving it back extends it more like a full 1" - 1.5"

Yeah, I'd forgotten exactly how we decided to do it - at the time we ordered
the Hybrid, we were thinking it might be Cary's saddle so we wanted to
squeeze every cm we could out the seat length. The good thing though, is
the extra length doesn't seem to bother small riders - my tiny friend has
ridden in this saddle and likes it fine, although I usually let her use the
regular-seat dressage when she rides here. She's 5'0" and about 98 pounds
soaking wet. I'd say if in doubt with a treeless saddle, err to the
slightly big side. I guess I just don't need much support in the cantle -
the dressage cantle is fine with me.

Which did you get, Sue?

Karen Thomas, NC
