I think that could be a factor sometimes, but in Sina's case, she lived on what had to be the best pastures in KY until she was five - big, and full of varied and mixed grasses, such as KY blue grass, fescue, with a sprinkling of alfalfa, clover and all kinds of "herbs" and weeds that had to be a virtual smorgasbord. She was about as tall as she is now when I got her at age five, but she continued to muscle up for at least three years. And, I raised two non-Icelandic weanlings here, with virtually the same feeding plan - the mare was as tall as she got by age 2, but the gelding grew in height until he was at least seven.
