Gallant Boy is off his feed. He has great gut sounds, no temperature,
but will only nibble and wants to lie in the sun like he is just so
tired he cant go on. I gave him banamine and bute and sat with him in
the sun and he seemed relaxed and calm, just soooooo tired. This
could be the end. I am sure it will be if he doesnt eat hearty soon,
just a matter of days really since he is so thin. I am just making
sure he is comfortable and sitting with him and telling him what a
great horse he has always been. He wants to lay in old hay that has
been soiled by the others. I wonder if it reminds him of his old
stall? I take him to clean new hay and soft sand and he goes back to
the soiled hay and just wants to lie there and even rests his nose on
the ground. he does not seem in pain... no rolling or thrashing or
sweating.
If anyone has any ideas to make him more comfortable, they would be
appreciated. he is 30 years old and we agreed to take him in with no
heroic measures, but want to make sure he is comfortable and not in
pain... If he was eating well I would think he was just old and
enjoying the sunny weather but I know with him not eating he will go
downhill fast. I gave him some b-12 to stimulate appetite...
