Do you have a different kind? There is a triple wide (coarse or fine) available for horses. The company recommends the coarse blade for thick-coated horses which is what I just received. I was surprised at how small the width is (even the triple wide). After about 3 sweeps mine gets plugged with hair too. I think they do cut the hair as replacment blades can be ordered and I would assume that would be because the blades dull. Good news is that the same handle can be used for the coarse blade or fine blade so that cuts down a bit on the cost.
