I think MOST training "methods" are more for the human than for the horse
when it comes down to it.  I think horses are amazingly smart and eager to
please by nature.  I think most horses can do pretty well with any number of
kind, gentle and humane styles.  Sure, there are cases where one may work
better for a given horse, but I've known plenty of nice horses who were
trained with no particular named method - just with a kind owner who wasn't
a pushover, and used good common sense with an understanding of the animal.
