-Why? If You by a newly imported Icelandic or import yourself?
In fact the care of a imported Icelandic is
very, very important at least the first two years

>To say that the horse "isn't taken care of"
>implies that the fault is with the owner, and that's simply not fair.

-why is it not fair if you import a Icelandic
to your SE area home I suggest that you do what
you can for 2-3 years to prevent SE. At least the
buyers of my horses are getting some direction of
care from me and are very well aware what to do.

I don't stall my horses from dusk til dawn, and I never have.

-Ice horse owner in sweden don´t either but
the stall is open so they can come in if they
want in when the sun sets and come´s up as the
fly do bite very much at this time.

I don't like the idea of installing an
automatic fly-spraying system for worry about over-exposure to chemicals.

- why chemicals? we don´t use that in Sweden as
don´t want to kill all flies (birds do have to eat)

>>>I don't put expensive gnat-resistant flysheets on my already hot horses in
>>>the
>summer - normal flysheets don't work from what I hear.

The Sweden blanket (fogott it´s name) is very
well working and in fact a thin blanket do
prevent the horse from over heating especially
black horses. (why are you supposed to have hat in sunny day´s)

>>>>If Loftur comes down with SE,

Is Loftur a import? and do you live in a very SE area?

the first horses my mum & her friend imported to
their place in Sweden in 1995, are SE free with
very little care (no blanket) ,but they always
have the stall open so they can come in. And one
mare Blanda has had 3 offsprings all SE
free ,Last summer they got a new mare from
Iceland and she made the first summer Ok , But
my Sweden Born Shetland pony had (sold as I live
here in Iceland) problems with SE before the
Icey´s came and got fine as we changed our care.

But neighbor of mum that live´s 5 km away had to
put her Icey to sleep as he was very very ill of
SE . I never saw the horse but it was very bad I
was Told. And the care he got I never asked about
it. this was for 11 years ago and the SE wasn´t
so much talked about then in Sweden.

Best Regards Malin
