Why plain text email messages are best in today's Internet.

If you are on an email list that allows rich text and does not require plain
text posts, you may be opening yourself up to costly computer viruses and worms.

Plain text email means that only the words are transmitted to the recipient,
without any formatting information. So the list subscriber can control the
format of the email in their email reader, using the size and font that best
suits their eyesight.

There can be no pictures, graphics, colors, different sizes of letter nor
different types of fonts in a plain text email. You can put web page
addresses (URL's like http://www.mail-list.com) in plain text messages, and
these links will be clickable, and immediately jump to the web page you
specified. You can put email addresses (like mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) in
plain text messages, and when clicked, they will open an email message with
the To line already filled in.

Plain text email is easy to compose, easy to send, easy to receive. So you
don't have to waste your time trying to format an email for a zillion
different incompatible email readers. So your subscribers can read your
email even on their cell phone or PDA. Even if they have visual disabilities
or need to use a text to speech converter.

HTML or rich text can spread viruses. Plain text emails have never ever
contained a virus, nor tracked if or when an email message was opened, nor
caused any security problems.

Plain text emails are much more likely to get through all the spam filters
on the Internet than HTML email, and therefore be read by other list
subscribers.
