I haven't seen this quote before.  Do you think he meant "exponential" ?

Well, I think the innate intelligence is already there.  Perhaps,  the horse 
is allowed to express his intelligence, and therefore, seems smarter than 
the average horse.  And they are encouraged to think for themselves, which 
also promotes intelligence.  Plus, allowing youngsters to learn to be 
operant at an early age, can only help develop their brains.

I remember, in the very early days of clicker training, talking with Alex 
and others about how brilliant our horses all had become!!!  We were 
astounded at how quickly they learned and retained new things.
