we had a haflinger ex-broodmare at the barn i used to ride at.  when we
got her, she was indeed gentle as a lamb.  once she got into shape,
though, her favorite gait turned out to be the buck.  i have never seen
such a bucker before or since; she could buck near upside down all the
way around the ring, long after her rider had flown away.  she'd do it
in the field, too; apparently it was just her idea of a good time.

she went back to the farm from whence she'd come, and presumably back to
making darling blond foals.
