If your mom was bitten by a bat suspected of being rabid, then she must have had a series of shots...but then, that's why I advise people to check with their MD or health department. I think most people would consider the $10,000+ it cost for my husband and me to get the series (over a period of about a month) last June a reasonably "huge deal" - and insurance doesn't always cover it.
