when my horses get loose on the trail I never chase them in any way.
I just turn my back and pretend I dont see them or give a hoot.  One
time I walked five miles after jaspar and he was just enjoying the
heck out of it, he would saunter just far enough ahead, stop and
graze, eyeing me, just waiting til I got close them saunter off.  I
said heck with you buddy, went back to get my friends horse.  No
sooner had I turned around than he was following me.  Now depending on
the situation I either go for a feed bucket to shake at them or just
ignore.  I have known of one case where the horse did not come back
tho, he was tangled in titi, a bush that grows here in swampy areas
that hunting dogs get tangled in and never get out of..  it is very
dense and thorny.
