Gusti doesn't tolt, so I'm not sure about that, but he knows when I give a slight squeeze with my legs, gather the reins (because by then he's lifted his head) and just shift forward ever so slightly....no I mean...lean forward slightly, so I'm moving with his energy... he knows I want him to trot. During his initial training, I would add the word "trot" to the whole squence so he was clear about what I was asking. But that's what we do...I'm not sure if that's a 'universal' language or not.
