On a positive note... maybe it is a situation breed-wise where the icelandic temperament is such that chryptorchidism may be tolerable. because the way my vet explained, and my experiences with my friend sylvia and her chryptorchid horse, is that biologically when a horse's sperm count is low due to chryptorchidism the hormone glands pump out more and more trying to compensate so the horse gets a sorta hormone overdose. My vet told me this but I have not verified it scientifically or anything. But my vet explained this is why a chrytorchid stallion's behavior is way worse than normal stallion hormone behavior. They in fact turn into raving lunatics. My neighbors horse was like this and I feared he would bust thru the fence one day and kill something or somebody and my friends horse was so bad, he was just awful and even tho he is old and calm now and cannot be ridden due to navicular she has to have a mare to keep around him because if she brings a gelding home he will try to kill him.
My nasi was not chryptorchid, but his "ingual ring" didn't close which they found when he was gelded. my vet said it was "common in ponies and wild mustangs". We have a lot of wild mustangs in our area because we are located near a BLM adoption site. Janice -- yipie tie yie yo
