Netposse is a great site. The horse that was stolen near me was
advertised on Netposse, and his recovery story is there. I also called
the owner to talk w/ her re: what I could do to protect my horses from
the same thing.  At least for slaughterhouse theft, the most likely
horses to be stolen would be big ones (more weight = more $$), so our
little ponies would more likely be overlooked for the big horses down
the road (even tho WE know that they often weigh the same!)
 I've made things hard tho--in addition to the security camera, I've
put locks on my gates, don't keep halters on the horses, lock my
trailer, and have warning signs every where.
