>>>> Palmetto bugs (really big flying cockroaches) live in the trees and in
nests in the ground -- I spent my high school years near Miami and saw lots
and lots and of them. But they are all over the south -

Well, not ALL over the south. We don't have them in the inland mid-south.
We probably have more bugs than some parts of the country - although Wanda's
description of her mosquitoes yesterday sounded worse than what I've ever
seen here. I'm sure we have a longer bug season than cooler parts of the
USA.

FWIW, there are several distinct climate zones within the South.
http://tinyurl.com/22ns23 Anneliese is in the Upper South in KY. The
mountains of NC are in the Middle south - probably considered Upper South in
some areas, although at certain elevations, the climate is almost New
England-ish. I'm on the border of the Middle and Lower South, while Janice
is on the border of the Lower and Coastal South. Miami is tropical - a
whole 'nuther ball of wax. Since I met Janice, I've watched her weather
forecasts from time to time, and often, her weather is not dramatically
different from ours, but her terrain and soil is quite different.

"The greatest enemy of the truth very often is not the lie- deliberate,
contrived and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive and
unrealistic."

"All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
