>>>> Is there a particular length that you can get that will "fit" an Icelandic better? I'd prefer a shorter rein (one piece, w/ snaps at either end) so I don't have 2 feet of bight getting in my way all the time.
Some of the one-piece reins you'll find made for full-sized horses are about 10 feet long and those are too long to me for about all horses, except for the 16-hand-ish horses with long necks. I've bought several pairs of the cotton roping reins that are nominally 7-feet - but I think most are actually about 7.25-7.5 feet - those work great for most of my Icelandic's, and my stocky 14.1 hand TWH mare. They are, however, slightly short for a couple of the bigger Icelandic's (Falki, Trausti and Skjoni.) I would think that 8-feet would be a safe length for most Icelandic's, based on how you describe your preference, although I personally prefer the 7-ish feet ones for the small-medium Icelandic's unless they have unusually long necks.
