judy, that's a great essay. thanks for posting it. i'd like to add a comment on ground work from sam morrison: "everything a horse can do with you on his back is going to be easier for him *without* you on his back." so in her view ground work was preparation for any kind of new stuff you'd like to eventually be able to do in the saddle. i think most of us understand this readily when it comes to say de-spooking, but it's a little more subtle for things like rating the gaits and flexibility... --vicka
