Ron was born at 25 weeks, weighing in at a whopping 1 lb 7 oz. He experienced many of the complications associated with extreme premature birth, so he has a VA shunt, vision impairment, some degree of mental retardation (hard to tell for sure since he is mostly non-verbal), autism, a seizure disorder and receives his nutrition mainly by g-tube.
Yes, I know that sounds pretty extreme, but he is a wonderful joy-filled funny guy. He will be 15 on July 4. He keeps us laughing and hopping. He does not walk, but is able to scoot around in his specially adapted manual wheelchair. He loved the therapeutic riding program he was in, but the goofy people who directed it decided not to take non-verbal riders. We're hoping that he will be able to ride Tosca, Stephanie's therapy horse when we have her going really well. Nancy
