Janice,

This sounds like something called petechiae (tiny bleeding spots right 
under the skin or in the tissues).  Could be from vessel damage or 
platelet (involved in clotting) deficiencies.  Sometimes, the clotting 
problem, when it is an acute situation, might stem from a viral 
infection (idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura).  Petechiae don't 
normally bleed though, it is pinpoint spots of blood under the skin.   
It sounds like you are doing what you can to keep him comfortable till 
you can see the vet.
