I know Janice will remember some of the past threads where people have
implied that it's cruel to move Icelandic's to the south, where it's SO
danged hot, they'll never make the adjustment, yada, yada. I saw something
this morning that I'd never seen that really surprised me.

We did get some rain overnight and this morning, probably almost 3 inches
total by now, hurray! It's also very cool for June - about 70 degrees F
now, which will probably be the high. The farrier came at 10:30am, and I
went out earlier to start putting some horses in the barn. Melnir was
already under the shed, and I almost had a panic attack...every muscle in
his body was shivering. I panicked - why was he sick and what on earth is
wrong with my baby...?!! Then I noticed...every other Icelandic gelding
under the shed was also shivering. Even Loftur, who was born in Iceland.
It was probably 62 degrees F. But, considering it's been high 80's and low
90's recently, it felt pretty darned cold to me too, especially with the
rain.

I think that goes to show that horses, even Icelandic horses feel
temperatures based on what they've become accustomed to. So, Icelandic's
not only can adjust to living in the south, but they can adjust to the point
that 62 degrees F feels cold to them.

I don't think we have to worry TOO much about them freezing to death in NC
in June though. I think they will be fine.
