>>> ! I can't believe you got 235 bales off of 4.5 acres tho--wow! Maybe I
should have someone cut my pasture (about 3.5-4 acres)--the grass is really
nice this year! The problem is finding someone who will cut/bale it.

A good cutting here is about 100 bales per acre, so 50-60 is so-so. We once
got about 120 per acre - that was a bumper crop. Thank goodness Emily was
dating a good-natured, big, strapping boy, with a good-natured, big
strapping brother that year! That's a job to pick up that much, knowing
there's almost always a thunderstorm risk during hay season. We haven't
been fertilizing it like we should, so the yield has dropped. Our hay guy
had a day job and was only a hobby farmer until he retired last year. Now
he's a "full-time" farmer. His equipment is old, but it (mostly) works. We
have to find someone like him to cut it - someone who just enjoys a little
hobby farming. It wouldn't be worth it for us if we had to buy the
equipment.

There's about 15-20 acres for sale that adjoins our property, and this is
part of it. I'd LOVE to buy it, but our area is developing so fast, I don't
think the price is too good for farm land.
