I think normal protocol is that a horse should be trimmed every 4-6-8 weeks. However, that can be different for some horses. Charm's mother is one that does not need her feet trimmed very often. Not necessarily that our ground wears down her feet, because the other horses are trimmed quite frequently, general at 5-6 weeks. When I first met her, at the age of 16, she had never been trimmed in her life. I will find a picture, on my other computer, showing her feet at that time. Not much different than a horse that had been trimmed 6-8 weeks ago! So, for the mare in question, I would ask for pictures of her feet, and see what they consider "not needing a trim".
