i remember when stonewall was young and green and just in a saddle, i
ponied him in it all over so he got used to the stirrups flapping etc.
then one day I was leading him on a densely wooded path and a limb
caught on me, flipped loose and slapped against his saddle making a
popping sound against him. He jumped six feet sideways :) glad I
wasnt on him at the time! I got a crop and would make popping sounds
on his saddle for a while and when ponying would make sure we went
thru heavy wooded areas...
