boy aint that the truth! I ride in all sandy/leafy terrain with maybe
some roots or stumps etc. sometimes on a dirt road past a house there
will be a gravel drive or oyster shell. So my horses are unshod. But
when I travel I always ask about terrain. One time in the mountains
stonewall got a stone bruise. I even think sometimes my horses are so
unaccustomed to sandy/leafy terrain that when they DO go where there
is shale, rock, shell etc they need shoes even worse than a horse
accustomed to that area barefoot.

but theres shod, and then theres shoeing for gait. a lot of gaited
horse rider here keep their horses shod either front or back but
usually not both. Then you know they are shoeing for gait. (although
there can be a good reason for that too sometimes)
