I think it like everything, it depends - on the situation, the horse and the rider. I think it is pretty dangerous to try it on a horse that is not trained to it and in some terrain situations. Also please consider that a one-rein stop can be very damaging to the horse's neck, withers and pelvis so when people are judging one style as harmful to the horse please realize that other things can be as well.
