Turpentine is a drying agent...it removes oil.( Oil strippers in the
paint section in the hardware store)  It will give a temperary
softening effect because it removes the oil on the hoof thus allowing
water to come in, then out again.....if you use turpentine, put the
hoof in water then put on an oil barrier.....

Oil is associated with keeping hoofs moist.....a lot of the products
out there though, have both a drying agent and a moistening agent in
the same product.  It drives Sallys Doctor mind crazy at times.
