>From Eileen of the ClickRyder list:

After I became a Reiki Master I researched many other healing
methods, in order to expand my knowledge. Clicker training and
Shamanism are two methods that I find to be connected.

Like every one else I teach my horses many things with a clicker,
these can all be adapted to help the healing process of an injured or
sick horse. For example a horse that is on box rest and can only go
out for light exercise will focus on a target stick and stays calm.
Because they enjoy clicker training and have a say in what is
happening it creates a healing environment.

As I introduced my horses to reiki they would communicate to me the
ares that needed healing. By pushing my hands in the right direction
or moving thier bodies, I knew I had the right spot because they
would lick and chew, yawn and sigh, all signs of healing. As I used
a clicker to communicate they found ways of communicating back,
during grooming a slightly raised foreleg meant you have touched a
sore spot it needs attention. During ground training they would
gently take hold of my sleeve if a certain exercise caused soreness.

When I read about shamanism I became interested in the three aspects
of consciousness particularly Ku. Ku is concerned with memory,
genetic memory stored at cell level and learned memory stored in the
muscles. In a relaxed state we have access to all our memories
tension blocks this. It is the job of the Ku to keep us happy, in a
stressed situation the Ku chooses the memory that creates the most
pleasure or if that is not possible the least pain. So actions are
caused by memories if you change memories you change actions. A
clicker can be used to do this we do it all the time. A horse spooks
genetic memory says run, running is hard work so we shape a new
behaviour with the clicker, standing is good.

A happy horse is a healed horse.
