> HNAKKVIRKI SADDLES - they have a new saddle called the "Cowboy saddle"

I think that's an old website; the western icelandic saddle is not new.

It came out subsequent to discussions on this list, many years ago, as to
whether Icelandic Horses could wear western saddles.

Up until that point, it was said that Icelandics could NOT wear western
saddles; that they would not be able to gait in them. They *had* to have an
icelandic saddle to gait.

A number of our members mentioned their desire to use a western saddle on
their Icelandics, so someone in Iceland jumped on that and came out with the
western icelandic saddle. Pictures are here:

Like other icelandic saddles, it's not wide enough, it has the extended
panels (not a good thing), and obviously was not made with a knowledge of
saddle design, saddle fit, the shape and dynamics of the (Icelandic) horses'
back, nor a combination thereof.
