I have wondered about the Icelandic method of riding several horses during a trip. I think the US Calvary and some large ranch outfits had the same practice. Don't the extra horses still have to cover the same amount of ground? How much easier for them do you suppose it is to cover say 25 miles unencumbered as compared to traveling the same amount of miles with a rider?
