>>>> I was looking through some old photos of using the neck ring. Here is
one taken about 22 years ago (no helmet on my part - days long over) on a
horse that we sold to the Vermont Icelandic horse farm and I know he was a
favored horse for many years.

Cool picture!

And btw, on the helmet issue: for those who've had horses for less time than
I have, or for those of you who have had horses forever and might not
remember the timeline, here's the history trivia du jour: We got our first
horses about 19 years ago. At the time, the ASTM/SEI tested helmets were
pretty new, and we had very few choices. Many of the helmets being sold
were actually "hunt caps" and they weren't safety approved at all. In fact,
many (most?) didn't even have chinstraps, and would probably hit the ground
apart from the rider in some cases! So, it probably wouldn't have done you
a lot of good to wear one 22 years ago anyway. Emily's and my first
helmets were big, bulky black velvet monsters that were not comfy at all,
not vaguely shaped like our heads, and they cost about $100 each. Helmets
have really come a long way in 20 years, thank goodness!

"The greatest enemy of the truth very often is not the lie- deliberate,
contrived and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive and
unrealistic."

"All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
