I went for a trail ride today with 3 of my neighbors.
Mom's knees were bothering her, so she and Fireman
stayed home. I learned that Whisper does not like a
horse cantering up behind her - trotting is OK, but
cantering buggers her! I was a model for some of the
worst example of horsemanship untill I got Whisper
back under control. I was see-sawing on her mouth and
it took most of my arm strength to keep her from
galloping out of control. I got her stopped and did
several revolutions of hind-end dis-engagement and got
her flexing side to side and we headed out again.
Once she was relaxed, we did some more trotting, then
tried cantering again. She got a bit strong, and I
had to see-saw again, but she finally settled.
However, she was not on a "loose" rein,(like I usually
ride) but contact. I will really need to work on this
unless I do endurance rides at the tail end! At least
the woman behind me is not only an experienced 3-day
eventer, but an instructor as well.

I am off to my second job for the rest of the weekend,
but we will have 4 days next weekend to work on this
with me and Whisper!

(BTW, it was kinda fun, which tells me Whisper was
never REALLY out of control!)
