>>> I did use some of that intense spot fly repellant a few weeks ago, that seems to actually work for a while, and nobody was bothered by the application.
I have found that the long-lasting spot-on types (like Equi-Spot) or the roll-on gel War Paint seem to help the chronic itchers more than any thing. I don't think ANYTHING will get rid of all bugs/flies in our area - barn swallows are our biggest allies, but they leave early-mid August. I think the sprays invariably lose effectveness here, no matter how often you use them, so there are lags in the repellency...and if the horse is one to rub, they are limited in breaking the cycle. I sure don't claim that War Paint or Equi-Spot will cure all the bug issues, but I think they work more effectively, at least for longer periods, than about anything we've tried. But, that's just HERE. I wonder if this is only true in this area, and maybe not so much in other areas...? None of my horses have symptoms of true SE though...
