>>>> I was told by an Icey owner that they are extra sensitive. Do you
think that is true?

"Sensitive" is one of the vaguest terms I hear used in conjunction with
Icelandic's. In some ways, yes, I'd consider some Icelandic's sensitive.
But, I was talking to an Icelandic owner recently, and she said something
like, "This mare is what I think they call 'sensitive' now. I'd just call
her nervous."

Sensitive can mean super-aware and compassionate, as in a "sensitive" friend
might know you're having a bad day and do something special to perk you up.
It can mean that you get rashes easily. Some people might use the term to
mean that someone is paranoid, always looking for an ulterior motive, and is
easily offended. Or, in the case of the horses, it's sometimes a nice way
to cover up a certain over-reactiveness.

The way that Nancy described her filly this morning, as looking like, "did I
get it right?" I'd consider that a potential form of sensitivity, but a good
form. Who knows though when someone uses the word if that's what they mean,
or they simply mean nervous.

If someone calls an Icelandic horse 'sensitive', I'd certainly want to hear
the "essay question answer" behind their meaning!
