A lot of people use them here (not that many for Icelandics though). They are always used with 2 reins though, (or at least a joiner) unlike the Icelandic bit. Many of the bits from "old" gaited horse cultures (Peruvians, Pasos, various African gaited ponies etc) use bits similar to the Icelandic bit.
