this might not work for the never-had-a-horse buyer, but for siamese cat rescue we get their vet as a reference and call their office to ask how good they are with keeping their pets up-to-date on routine stuff and dealing with disasters. maybe also ask for references, from the owners of the horses she's been riding...? good luck, --vicka
