Here is my all time favorite bit of training advice from a 1965 book by
Alois Podhajski former director of the Spanish Riding School.

"If this work begins under the rider he should not forget the youthfulness
and inexperience of his horse and show leniency to his faults, overlooking
playful bucking which is an expression of youthful gaiety to which the horse
is entitled. On no account should the horse be punished, but the rider must
make every effort not to be thrown off."

Don't you just love that?
