The bits themselves are bad enough, but the nosebands are just nasty icing.
They were expressly forbidden by Icelandic rules until maybe a year or two
ago.  It seems that the second the rules were rewritten, a bunch of
riders/trainers just couldn't wait to add them.  It's sick.


I've only been on the lists for a little over four years.  When I first
joined, and saw the trends towards heavier shoes on front, weighted bell
boots, Icelandic boots, I said what was obvious to me...that the Icelandic
show world was starting down the slippery slope that claimed the TWH, as
well as some other breeds.   I know that others had said the same before me,
and I've heard others say it since...we were admonished as "hand-wringers",
looking for trouble in a trouble-free environment.   I'm sorry to say that
the decline has been even quicker than I imagined.  This is one case where I
really, really hate to say, I told you so.
