>>>> It's fun playing with her gaits. Her default gait is a stepping pace,
but keep her slow and she does a nice saddle rack. Her trot is quite good,
with some suspension, but she finds it impossible to return to walk without
transitioning through stepping pace (weird). Canter is mostly fine, but if
you lose balance she will go disunited pretty easily which is horribly
uncomfortable.

When I got Holly, my first "multi-gaited" horse, I thought all those gaits
were a pain. Now, I think it's a hoot to play with. I only wish I could go
back and have a do-over with poor old Holly. Man, that mare taught me so
much...bless her heart!

Questions, Mic: I initially thought Sina's default gait was stepping pace,
but I got her right when I was recovering from my broken back, and I was a
mess, physically, and not 100% ok emotionally, due to some lingering fear.
As I got myself back into shape, got her into shape, AND finally got her a
saddle that works, I found that her default is MUCH closer to mid-range than
I thought, and that she can do all of the gaits. What I'm saying is, don't
give up if you haven't had her long and are just getting used to each other.
The main thing that makes me think that your mare might be at least slightly
more lateral than Sina is how you describe her canter. Sina has always had
a nice, three-beat canter with little suspension that is the BEST I've ever
ridden. It seems to me (I could be wrong) that the more lateral horses are
much more likely to have a disunited, broken, canter. Gosh knows, my old
TWH, Mac, never did master a nice canter...

First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
