I have had an oriental medicine practice for horse & humans for about 23 years now & have seen no ill effects from feeding freeze dried garlic to horses in the amounts a veterinary herbalist like Hilary Self in the UK would rec.. I would not however exceed the dosages that Hilton Herbals uses thinking more is better. I have seen quite a few clients over the years buy things from the local health food stores for their animals thinking what is good for humans is good for other species & this is not always so. If you are going to supplement your animals (any species) I feel strongly that it is important to use products formulated for that species by reputable veterinary herbalists etc, not just some company that puts it out there for sale. As to the efficiency of the garlic alone....I would take it on a case by case just like any other oriental medicine practitioner would. You listen to pulses & correlate a history to determine what organ systems need help & rec. foods/herbs /supplements for that specific case.. this is what I do.
