Sometimes I think horses that have been moved a lot take longer to adjust, or perhaps that would depend on their personality. The very stoic Standardbred, Twist, has had 9 owners that we know of. There may have been more. He was born in the East, raced on the California, somehow came to Oregon. He really loves it here, but (in my human wisdom) I thought he would like spending the summer on pasture so I moved him one mile up the road to the boarding facility where Hunter lives. Twist was so depressed that we would stand around watching him and discuss what possible horrible event in his past had so effected him. Summer over, I brought him back home and he's a different horse. Apparently he has chosen this as his home. He's really pretty much a pet here, but he won't be leaving ever again.
