I know Gambur, he was born at Rock Ranch, where the sire Gymir fra Skardi
lives. I worked there for awhile, halter training and doing basic ground
work with weanling Icelandics, and 4 imported, barely handled 2 year old
Gypsy Vanner fillies. Gambur didn't get handled much and so was difficult to
catch out in a huge pasture when we first went to halter him. Once he was
handled a bit, he really settled down and had a sweet personality. He and
Hrafn are my filly Roka's 1/2 brothers. Roka is very intelligent, friendly,
well conformed, and nicely gaited. I think Hrafn was born at Amazing Grace.
I never met him.
I think Gambur is better built but Hrafn is younger, and might be still in
that gangly stage. Gymir, the sire, is an awesome horse, and produces very
nice foals with good dispositions (of course the mares have something to do
with that as well. He is nicely 5 gaited and very, very gentle. Kids ride
him. I used to exercise him and their Vanner stallion (no stallion
experience until these two, but they were so easy to handle) and hand-bred
Gymir to my mare Lilja.

At Rock Ranch, they do ride in a snaffle with dropped noseband, but I've
never seen them put on tight. They had some treeless saddles made in
Iceland, that were very well-made, and fit well, if you like the flat seat
style. I only met Kristiana, the owner of Amazing Grace Ranch briefly a few
times when she visited Rock Ranch. She seemed knowledgable about horses and
was nice. It looks like they're just using the nose band as a halter to
show more of the head.
