I have recently acquired a 5 yr old mare from a horse rescue. she was
supposedly from a pmu in Canada. not sure if she was a foal or what.
after we had her a few days I assessed what she knew. after working
with her for about 20 min I was able to get her to lift her feet. very
personable. and after a few days she will face you when you approach
her. Lunging , well its kind of like chasing her around, direction
change a problem. I tried lunging her with a little paint I have and
she did better. even alone after that she will change direction now. I
slowly worked up to putting a saddle pad on her, she was fine. then
the saddle. she was fine. and after a few attempts of mounting, she
was fine with me on her back, I can even hop on her bare back.. but
here's the problem, I cant get any forward movement. I've only tried
this once, and I'm out of town right now, but could use any advice on
how to proceed in her training.
