I am new to the Icelandic world but I have owned gaited horses all my life. I totally love my new Icelandic but I do worry about him. We are located in Apache Junction, Az so it is hot here. I have clipped his hair to help with the heat. Even in the winter we are looking at 80's during the day. He doesn't sweat like all of my other horses have in the past, he only sweats a little under his blanket. He does however pant more than any other horse I have owned. He has great stamina but I don't want to hurt him by over heating him if he doesn't sweat. My question is: do Iceys have fewer sweat glands than other horses? Do you think it would help if his hair was longer(to act as a cooling insulator)? Thanks for any advice. And by the way Icehorses ROCK!!!!
