Mine don't - with the exception you noted.

Maybe the tendons and ligaments of the legs and back need time to stretch from 
years of odd trimming/shoeing?  Maybe they have contracted heels?  Or maybe 
sometimes it's just an excuse - sounds better than saying the horses needs hoof 
manipulation in order to gait.
