Hi Jeanette >>>I think teaching these guys to pull trees out of the woods shouldn't be too hard, I actually started my horses by ground driving and advanced them to leadline with a kid on them before I rode them myself
I know several people who have done light logging work with Icelandics and quite a few drive, it has worked well and there have been no problems. Not sure why there would be a problem with ringbone. Certainly Icelandics were used in Iceland to do farm work - not clearing logs but pulling other things. We start all our horses ground driving as well and carry on with a few of them for driving. If they are suitable for driving we have found Icelandics to be very easy and tractable to drive. I think Wanda must have sent some photos of Thokki, a horse we sold to Kathy Pauw, who has done very well in combined driving with him.
