Reposting this message from Janice which was sent in June, 2007.

Maybe we need to periodically go over the current status of our list.
Any successful organization does this annually, its a good thing to
evaulate where you are, where you've been, where you want to go,
openly, nicely, no personal attacks allowed!

As we all know, sometimes it only takes one or two very strong
personalities to color an entire group consisting of thousands of
people. Fights and skirmishes break out, feuds, jockeying for power
and authority, fighting back against perceived attacks, all-out war
between factions--- all this exists on this group and all others.

but certain things just should never be tolerated, like name calling,
prejudice against race or nationality or religion, sorta like the
american constitution...

but anyway. here is my honest evaulation of the current state of this list:

I really really like:

the way the focus seems to be on what is best for the horse above all.

A focus on natural horsemanship

humor is allowed and not discouraged unless it gets mean

fun pictures are encouraged

OT seems welcome as long as you say so

Things that are bad for horses is often pointed out and discussed openly

Things that are good for horses is constantly pointed out

The moderator does not allow vicious personal attacks

Now here for the bad (and I am guilty of some!):

Sometimes things get personal when they shouldnt

Sometimes new people are "corrected" by others in too severe a manner
(hey, we were all new! I remember some of the stupid stuff I believed
when I first came here and I cringe! Cringe I tell you! but what if
I had been run off, my horses would suffer and still be suffering!)

When fights break out they shoulod be taken offlist sooner.

just my opinion.
Janice
