>From Tamara in TN:

This morning from the commissioner of Agriculture himself as Calvin
spoke to him on the phone:

as of Jan 1 2008 hay purchased in the state of Tennessee and sold without
presentation of the new Farmers Tax Exempt certificate, is in fact
to be taxed at the rate of 9.75%...or be subject to audit and fine
by Tn Dept of Revenue

this applies to all hays grown on site or imported from other
states,to backyard farmers or real brokers, rounds
or compressed and everything in between...

we hope for better news when the Ag Committe meets early
next week, however for now things are the way they are...
if you are in TN or in a neighboring state, please pass this on and
around...

we are uncertain how hays sold outside the state and brought in will
be affected or how delivered to buyers from
outside of TN will be affected, but as it stands hay sold untaxed in
the state, with out presented certificate,
is an illegal sale.

When we have official word from Nashville on Tues we will notify the
out of state customers as to how this will affect you as well.

thanks
Tamara Howard
